Music Director - Dr. Victor Shen 音樂總監 沈新欽博士

Dr. Victor Shen has been working with choruses around the world for more than 40 years with a vast repertoire spanning many genres. In 1996, Dr. Shen received a full doctorate assistantship studying at University of Maryland. During this period, he helped in preparing the Maryland Chorus for important concerts with National Symphony Orchestra and American Symphony Orchestra. In 1997, he was invited to Beijing Conservatory of Music as a guest conductor and lecturer of master classes for a five-week program.

From 1998 through 2004 Dr. Shen taught in the Music Department of Tunghai University and Kaohsiung Normal University, conducting sixteen groups around Taiwan including Taiwan University Chorus, which represented Taiwan in a worldwide memorial concert for 9-11 victims in 2002. He was the founder of several community choruses, including the New Era Group in Taichung, recipient of government grants three years in a row for its choral excellence. He was also a host for Taichung classical radio station on a program which showcased choral music.

When Dr. Shen returned to the US in 2004, he worked with many groups including the Trenton Children’s Chorus, Xiaofong Arts Group, Chinese-American Choral Ensemble, Rutgers University Queens Chorale, Chin Yun Chorus, Vox Nova, and has also guest conducted with Yue Yue Chorus and the Greater Trenton Symphony Orchestra. He is also the chief clinician for the New Jersey Teen Arts Festival and the Director of New Jersey Youth Choral Ensemble. In 2017, he returned to Taiwan to teach at the Music Department of Tunghai University. He currently conducts the Tunghai University Chamber Choir, National Chunghsing University Choir, Kaohsiung Medical University Choir, Taipei Chin Sui Chorus and VS/VS Singers of Greater Washington DC area, along with Vox Nova in New Jersey and its four affiliate groups in Taiwan.

沈新欽博士出生於台南市,受到藝術家雙親的薰陶,自幼即對音樂有極大的興趣,中學時代就在台灣區獨唱比賽屢獲首獎。自文化大學音樂系畢業後任教於華岡藝校與台南家專音樂科,並擔任文化、輔大、建中等校合唱團指導老師,在這期間並創立台北金穗合唱團。隨後於西敏合唱音樂學院(Westminster Choir College)碩士班主修合唱指揮暨聲樂,畢業後活躍於美東音樂界,曾擔任紐約市美聲歌劇團合唱指揮,並應邀於林肯中心費雪廳指揮聯合慶典音樂會,為華人最早登上費雪廳的指揮之一。

沈博士在1992年秋返台,任教於東海大學與中山大學音樂系及研究所,教授合唱與指揮;並擔任金穗合唱團、台大合唱團、東海聖樂團、中山大學音樂系合唱團、省交合唱團、曉明女中音樂班高中部合唱團指揮,期間也成立了台中市樂友合唱團及台南市頌音合唱團。1996年獲馬里蘭全額獎學金赴美攻讀博士,在校期間擔任馬里蘭大學合唱團(University of Maryland Chorus)助理指揮,曾多次協助美國國家交響樂團準備合唱曲目,1997年夏並應邀至中國音樂學院擔任客座教授並開授合唱指揮大師班。

沈博士在1998年完成博士課程後再度返台,先後在東海大學音樂系 、高雄師範大學音樂學系及各地音樂班任教,足跡遍佈全台。指導團體包括台大、高醫、金穗、台南府城教師及台中新世紀合唱團等優良團隊。2002年受台灣外交部僑委會指派,擔任全球紀念911受難者音樂會指揮,在國家音樂廳指揮台大合唱團及聯合交響樂團演唱莫札特安魂曲,通過全球衛星轉播至世界各地。他在台灣各地成立了許多的合唱團體,也曾經在台中愛樂電台擔任合唱節目的主持人,為推廣合唱活動不遺餘力。

沈博士在2004年返美之後,仍舊活躍於美東音樂界。先後指揮泉頓市青少年兒童合唱團、大泉頓交響樂團、曉風、琴韻、大華府趕集歌手、羅格斯大學Queens Chorale 以及新聲室內合唱團Vox Nova Chamber singers。除了指揮外,沈博士也經常在美、加、台灣等地的合唱音樂節及研習活動中擔任指揮與講座。2017年5月他在新州海洋大學舉行的青少年藝術節(New Jersey Teen Arts Festival)擔任合唱及聲樂研習的主要指導教授。暑假在台期間與金穗合唱團、Lollipop Singers分別於台北、台中兩地舉行音樂會。2017年秋天再度返台定居,目前任教於東海大學音樂系,指導東海音樂系室內合唱團、中興大學合唱團、高雄醫學大學聲樂社、台北金穗合唱團、大華府趕集歌手,並擔任Vox Nova音樂藝術總監(台中、台南、新竹、高雄、新澤西)。
